General Information » Money » Money Exchanges

Foreign currency can be changed at banks and bureaux de change. Rates differ little, but independent exchanges occasionally have special deals. There are plenty of these in the city and exchange facilities are also available at the airport. Late night exchanges can be found in Central Station, Circular Quay and Kings Cross. Money can be transferred through Western Union. Look in participating newsagencies, Australia Post offices and American Express Foreign Exchanges. No bank account or membership is needed. Call 1800 501 500 (24 hours) or visit www.westernunion.com.au. Traveller’s cheques are not generally accepted other than by big stores, tourist shops and hotels.
