General Information » Entering Australia » Leaving Australia

Check-in time is typically two hours before an international flight, but this should be considered a minimum. Sydney is a busy airport and increased security checks can slow things down. Check with individual airlines (see p.41) whether you need to reconfirm your flight. See Air (p.40) for transport to the airport.

XXX L 4 XXX Tourist Refund Scheme

The TRS allows tourists to claim a tax refund on goods bought in Australia. You must spend $300 (GST inclusive) or more in one store and get a single tax invoice. Buy goods no more than 30 days before departure and wear or carry them on board the aircraft or ship you are leaving on. Present the goods, tax invoice, passport and boarding pass to a customs officer at a TRS facility. Claims can be made after you have passed through customs and immigration.

XXX L 4 XXX Security

Sharp items must go in your checked baggage. Any found at screening will be confiscated. Liquids, aerosols and gels in hand luggage must be carried in containers of 100ml or less. These will need to be taken in a one litre, clear plastic bag and separately screened. Exceptions will be made for some medicines and baby milk or baby food.
