General Information » Culture & Lifestyle » Religion

Freedom of worship has been practised in Sydney since the mid 1800s. Some 30% of Sydney’s population are Catholic, 20.2% are Anglican and 11.9% have no religion. The rest follow a number of spiritual paths, from Buddhism to Islam, Baptist, Sikhism and various others. As befitting the city’s Christian background, the Christian calendar is followed with major celebrations at Christmas and Easter.
