While cash is still the preferred mode of payment, the use of credit cards is extensive and commonplace – even taxis accept them. Many smaller shops and retail outlets that don’t accept credit cards often use the popular NETS card (Network for Electronic Transfers), a direct debit card linked to your bank account. Apart from hotels, which accept some of the major foreign currencies, all other transactions should be in Singapore's currency. Most shops, department stores, supermarkets and restaurants do not accept cheques.
