General Information » Getting Around » Bicycle

Not a recommended way to getting around – it’s either hot (average 32°C) and humid (84%), or it’s raining. Commuting by bicycle is uncommon, due to the lack of facilities for cyclists. Expressways are off limits and footpaths are for pedestrians, so cyclists have to ride on the road where the attitude of most motorists is ‘might is right’!

However, cycling does have a following among avid sportsmen. Outlying areas like Sembawang Road, Changi Coast Road and East Coast Parkway offer nice stretches of roads where cycling can be a pleasurable experience. For off-road riding, there are some great trails at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and on Pulau Ubin Island, and a ‘bike hash’ group (p.281).
