Although progress has been made with regard to facilities for the physically challenged, there’s still considerable room for improvement and growing awareness is prompting action to make life easier for people with special needs. Changi Airport is ahead of the game in these matters and no problems should be encountered here. The MaxiCab airport shuttle service (6456 4222) offers proper wheelchair facilities while Citycab Taxis (6552 2222) also cater for wheelchair users.

Elsewhere, all car parks have some spaces reserved, most major buildings have special toilet facilities and newly renovated food courts come with wheelchair friendly tables. Wheelchair ramps are becoming a standard feature of new buildings and some cinemas have special wheelchair lifts. Before going to a hotel or restaurant, check if it has facilities for people with special needs, because chances are most won’t. For hotels with specially adapted facilities for the physically challenged, please refer to the table on p.33.
