General Information » Places To Stay » Places To Stay

Qatar is committed to promoting itself as a high-quality destination, appealing to well-off tourists, business travellers, and the lucrative MICE market (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions). Luxury four and five-star hotels dominate the accommodation options, although there are also a number of reasonable lower-class hotels out there. Another alternative is serviced hotel apartments, which tend to work out cheaper than hotels for longer stays. At the moment there are no hostels to speak of, or camp resorts, although camping is a popular pastime in the cooler winter months.

Qatar currently has 3,700 hotel rooms (summer 2005), but with 37 new hotel projects either under construction or at the advanced planning stage, that number is set to increase to 5,400 by the time of the Asian Games in December 2006.
