General Information » Money » Local Currency

The monetary unit of Qatar is the Qatar Riyal (QR). It is divided into 100 Dirhams (not to be confused with the UAE Dirham which has almost the same value as the Qatari Riyal). Banknote denominations include QR 1, QR 5, QR 10, QR 50, QR 100, and QR 500.

The coins that are most commonly found are 25 and 50 Dirhams. One, five, and 10 Dirhams coins are still legal tender but are rarely seen. The Riyal is pegged to the US dollar at a mid rate of 3.65. Exchange rates of all major currencies are published daily in the local newspapers.
