Qatar is becoming more and more accustomed to plastic, with credit cards accepted at the majority of outlets. Most retailers in the capital and major retailers in the suburban communities accept credit and debit cards. Some smaller shops in the souk area of Doha take credit cards but may prefer cash and offer a better bargained price for those cash buyers. No surcharge should be levied by retailers taking credit cards. Qatar is eager to employ electronic transactions, with banks providing online accounting and usage notification via mobile telephone. Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners Club are widely accepted.
