General Information » Getting Around » Walking

When in Paris, you should never forget the best mode of transportation: legs. Paris was made to be enjoyed on foot and nearly all main roads feature wide, shaded pavements as well as clearly marked crossings.

Paris' famous bridges traversing the Seine are equally safe for pedestrians. Several, in fact, are pedestrian-only, including the Pont des Arts and the newest bridge in Paris, the Passerelle Simone de Beauvoir.

You should pay attention to two things when on a stroll in Paris: drivers who don't obey traffic lights, and presents left behind by dogs. Paris' 200,000 dogs leave 16 tonnes of waste on the streets every day, and while laws exist forcing owners to clean up after their pets, you won't walk long in residential districts before having to tiptoe around some mess left behind by a dog and their less than caring owner.
