Most of the top hotels in Muscat are located in Qurm Heights and Shati Al Qurm, with good locations near the beach. However, there are also some hotels with city locations, such as the Sheraton Oman in Ruwi, the Radisson SAS in Al Khuwayr and the Chedi in Al Ghubbrah. And right at the eastern end of Muscat you will find the regal grandeur of the Al Bustan Palace hotel and the brand new luxury of the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah resort.

There are some less fancy hotels along the Mutrah Corniche and in other city locations – while they might not be five-star hotels, they are still clean and functional. If you want to stay right near the beach in one of the most prestigious areas of Muscat, without spending a fortune, the Beach Hotel has an enviable location right in the heart of luxurious Shati Al Qurm.

It takes around 20 minutes to reach the hotels in Qurm from the airport, and a further 20 minutes to reach the Al Bustan Palace or the Shangri-La. The larger hotels offer an airport shuttle service, sometimes for a minimal charge and sometimes on a complimentary basis.

As with anywhere in the world, you can usually negotiate for a discount on the ‘rack rate’ (published rate). Check the internet or local press for special discounts at certain hotels.

If you are travelling outside of Muscat, you will find plenty of good hotels in Salalah, Nizwa, Sur, Sohar and Khasab.
