General Information » Essential Info » Women

Women should face few, if any, problems while travelling in Oman. It is generally safe to walk unescorted in well-lit and well-populated areas in Muscat and Salalah. Travelling alone in the interior or taking a public taxi on your own is not recommended.

Single female travellers who don’t want extra attention should dress modestly and avoid lower-end hotels. When travelling to the interior, always keep on hand a long-sleeved shirt and long skirt or an abaya, in case you have to cover up quickly. No matter what, most foreign females receive some unwanted stares at some time or another, particularly on the public beaches. If you can ignore it you’ll save yourself some aggravation!
