General Information » Essential Info » Health Care

The quality of medical care in Oman is quite high and visitors should have little trouble obtaining appropriate treatment, whether privately or from government-run hospitals. Towns in the interior have at least one health centre. Tourists are strongly encouraged to arrange private medical insurance before travelling since private medical care is fairly costly.

If you need medical assistance you may have to rely on friends, family or even a taxi to get you to a hospital since ambulance services are limited. In the case of life-threatening emergencies you can dial 999 throughout Oman and the Royal Oman Police will arrange appropriate transport.

There are many pharmacies and opticians in Muscat. Check the local newspapers, the English evening news (on TV) or 90.4 FM (Muscat and Salalah) on the radio for information about pharmacies on rotational 24 hour duty.
