General Information » Entering Oman » Visas

A passport (valid for at least six months and with enough blank pages) is required for all visitors, except nationals of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates who hold national identity cards; and holders of a Macau (SAR) Travel Permit.

Visa requirements have been greatly simplified as the country welcomes increased tourism. However, regulations should always be checked with your Oman Embassy or Consulate before travelling, especially if you plan to get a visa on arrival. Refer to the website of the Royal Oman Police (www.rop.gov.om) to get the latest information on visitor visas, residence permits and all other types of visas (employment, investor, student).

A joint visa facility exists between Qatar and Oman, under which citizens of 33 countries can apply online for a one-month visa that allows free travel between the two countries. After paying with credit card, you print the confirmation and receipt, and present these papers to the entry port in either country. Visit www.e.gov.qa for more information.

If you have sponsorship from an Oman entity, make sure they fax you a copy of the visa before the flight. The original should be lodged at Seeb International Airport for you to collect at the pre-booked visa collection counter before passport control (assuming you haven’t already received the original).

Tourists wishing to enter Oman are grouped, depending on their nationality, under either List (1) or List (2), for which different procedures and terms of the visa apply. There are four types of visa that are of interest to visitors – single entry, multiple entry, express, and common visa facility with Dubai.

Visa application forms are available before passport control, and there is a Travelex counter to ease visa fee payments. Verify the expiration date on your visa before you leave the immigration counter.

For all visas, there is a stiff penalty of RO 10 per day if you overstay your welcome. This will be charged at the control point when you leave the country. In extreme cases you may not even be allowed to leave Oman until you have applied for an extension.

Single Entry Visa XXX

Nationals in List (1) can get this visa upon arrival at all air, land or sea entry points or through an Oman diplomatic mission, after filling in an application form and payment of RO 6 or its equivalent. The passport must be valid for at least six months. The visa is valid for one month and can be used within six months from date of issue. It can be extended for another month by personally applying to the Directorate General of Passport and Residency (DGPR) and paying a fee of RO 6.
