General Information » Entering Oman » Customs

No customs duty is levied on personal effects brought into Oman. It is against the law to import narcotics, firearms (including toys and replicas) and pornography. There is no restriction on the import or export of any type of currency.

If you enter the country by air, your bags are x-rayed before you leave the airport and opened if there are suspect items. Up to five videos can be brought into the country and they may be temporarily confiscated for the material to be checked. You will be given a receipt to collect them at a later date and anything offensive will be erased (unless it’s the whole thing, in which case you won’t get it back!).

If you enter Oman by land, which means driving in from the United Arab Emirates, your bags may be searched at the Oman customs post. It is illegal to bring any alcohol into the country by road.

It is not advisable to bring your pets on holiday with you, as there are strict quarantine rules – various vaccinations and health certificates from the Department of Health and from your own vet may be required. Your pet may be subject to a six-month quarantine period although, strictly speaking, this is not required when coming in from a rabies-free country.

Duty Free Allowances:

• Two bottles of alcohol per non-Muslim adult (maximum two litres)

• 100ml of perfume

• 400 cigarettes
