Residents » Overview » When You Leave

If you decide to leave New Zealand you will need to notify the Inland Revenue Department (www.ird.govt.nz) and your bank. It would also be advisable to get in contact with immigration officials at least one month before your departure as they will be able to advise you if anything needs to be done. If you have been renting a property you will need to give the full notice required on your rental agreement if you want to claim back your bond. You will also need to give utility companies notice of your plans to leave and provide them with a forwarding address where they can send final bills. Remember too that New Zealand is a long way from anywhere so if you have possessions to ship home you will need to organise it well in advance because it can take up to three months.
