Be prepared to fill in plenty of forms and make sure that you have everything the Immigration Service asks for, as you can be turned away if you have missed something. Whether applying for a visa or arranging a wedding, it's always wise to get an idea of how long any administrative procedure will take and leave plenty of time for bureaucratic machinations.

Patience is a key requirement. If you're being sponsored by a company, then much of your paperwork should already have been completed. Either way, your original passport, valid for at least six months from your date of arrival in New Zealand, is absolutely essential. And you're almost certain to need the following in the first couple of months:

Birth certificate

Marriage or civil partnership certificate

Proof of employment

Proof of address

Drivng licence

It's a good idea to make copies of all your documents and take plenty of passport photos.
