General Information » Money » Local Currency

The New Zealand dollar, or ‘buck’, is made up of 100 cents, and comes in five denominations of bright polymer banknotes and two gold coins. These are $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5 notes, and $2 and $1 coins. The other coins – 50c, 20c and 10c –are silver and come in varying sizes.

Although prices are not rounded to the nearest 10c on menus and labels, this is done at all till transactions automatically and balances out in the end. Note that most items come with GST (Goods and Services Tax) included – a 12.5% surcharge similar to VAT in the UK.
