General Information » Money » Atms

Every high street has at least one ATM (usually marked ‘Cashpoint’). Foreign credit cards and some debit cards can be used at most machines. Cirrus and Maestro are the most widely accepted.

ATMs in New Zealand are mostly safe. However, in 2006 BNZ admitted to losing $47,000 after a ‘skimming’ scam (in which card details are read at an ATM machine and later used to make purchases). It was the first known skimming operation to have affected the country’s 2,300 strong ATM network. Treat money withdrawls in New Zealand with the same care you would anywhere else.
