General Information » Places To Stay » Guest Houses

B&Bs and guesthouses are plentiful in the city, with the cosier options located in the Lower East Side, TriBeCa, Soho and Brooklyn. Many are no cheaper than hotels, but they are far more personal with fewer rooms, congenial staff and a family atmosphere. Almost all of them will offer basic amenities including free internet connection, cable TV and in-room telephone as well as continental breakfasts. New York guesthouses are usually small and often situated in old (but well-maintained) buildings - the Abingdon Guest House (www.abingdonhouse.com) takes up two adjoining brownstones in the West Village and is tastefully decorated and professionally run. The East Village Bed & Coffee (www.bedandcoffee.com) is a relaxed, eclectic guesthouse with individually themed rooms and some funky common areas.
