The monetary unit is the dollar ($), which is equal to 100 cents. All the notes are the same colour - green - no matter what the denomination. It is one of the world’s most widely circulated currencies, along with the euro.

Each denomination note carries a portrait of previous US presidents, as follows: George Washington ($1), Thomas Jefferson ($2), Abraham Lincoln ($5), Alexander Hamilton ($10), Andrew Jackson ($20), Ulysses S Grant ($50) and Benjamin Franklin ($100).

Coins are available in denominations of one dollar, 25 cents (also called a quarter), 10 cents (a dime), five cents (a nickel) and one cent (a penny).
