On the whole, the city is well prepared for people with special needs. The Mass Transit System (MTA) in particular has taken great steps to ensure that all passengers are taken care of, including those with physical challenges or special needs. Many of the larger hotels, and some restaurants, are built with spacious doorways and corridors, ramps for wheelchair users, and extra services for people with special needs. Busy pedestrian walkways and impatient New Yorkers are perhaps the biggest hindrance, especially during rush hour when the sidewalks take on an ‘every man for himself’ aggression.
