If you have been the victim of a crime you must report the incident to the police as soon as possible. Either dial 911 (emergency service and ask for police department) or stop a cop, which is easy to do, as they are everywhere and super helpful. You will have to file a police report on anything that’s been taken, especially if you’re hoping to get some semblance of payback from your insurance company.

Should you lose your travel documents, the first thing to do is to file a police report. Then get in touch with your embassy or consulate as soon as possible. Don’t panic! As a precaution though, you should always make sure you have easy access to copies of your important documents.
