General Information » Economy » International Relations

New York is home to a consulate of almost every country in the world (embassies tend to be located in the country’s capital a few thousand miles away). Perhaps a more important indication of New York’s importance in matters of international relations is that the world headquarters of the United Nations offices are here, and the US is a voting key member of the UN Security Council.

Regional alliances are both well thought-out and economically solvent, and cover neighbours to the North (NAFTA – North American Free Trade Agreement, signed with Canada and Mexico to encourage trade) and to the South (CAFTA- of DR-CAFTA – Dominican Republic-Central American Free Trade Agreement, signed with the countries of Central America including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua).
