General Information » Money » Atms

You’ll find ATMs (cash machines) all over the capital, most of which accept Visa, MasterCard, Cirrus or Maestro cards. Most are situated outside banks and are accessible 24 hours a day, although you should be wary when using them late at night. Cloning of debit and credit cards – when skimming devices have been attached to ATMs – is also on the increase, but with the advent of chip and pin cards, it is now very difficult to use cloned cards for retail sales. However, it is still possible to use them to obtain cash from ATMs, so you should check the machine carefully before using it and shield your hand when entering your pin. ATM machines can also be a cheap way of obtaining British currency because they work on a good exchange rate; there will probably be a 1.5% fee for credit cards used this way.
