General Information » Places To Stay » Hostels

Several organisations operate hostels in Hong Kong, including the Youth Hostels Association (YHA). Most of the YHA’s hostels are located in the countryside, so they are of limited interest to short-term visitors. The exception is the Mount Davis hostel (2788 1638, www.yha.org.hk), located at the top of a hill at the western end of Hong Kong island. Great views, low-cost (dormitory beds from $80 a night), but also rather inconvenient to get to and from.

If location is important, the best bargain is the YMCA’s ‘The Salisbury’, in Tsim Sha Tsui (2268 7888, www.ymcahk.org.hk). It offers modern accommodation in the heart of the tourist area, with a bed in a four-person dormitory costing just $230 a night.
