General Information » Places To Stay » Guest Houses

If you are looking for budget accommodation and don’t mind basic facilities, a guest house is another option. Make sure it is licensed (the government has a list at www.hadla.gov.hk), and that it is a ‘Tourist Guesthouse’. The alternative is ‘Local People Guesthouses’, which are aimed at the China market.

Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) was traditionally the focal point for budget accommodation, but it is an old and crowded building. You are better off staying elsewhere, as there is plenty of choice. See the table below for some suggestions.

In Causeway Bay, expect to pay $300 - 400 per night for a double room, while in Tsim Sha Tsui the rate is around $200 - 300 per night. Ask about discounts if you’ll be staying a week or longer. Rooms have a small private toilet and shower, TV and air-conditioning. That’s about all the facilities you should expect, though you may be surprised to find that all four listed below offer WiFi wireless internet!
