XXX L 2 XXX Leaving Hong Kong

Departing from Hong Kong airport is just as easy as arriving. Most airlines no longer require reconfirmation of flights out of Hong Kong, but it is still worth checking with your airline, especially if it’s based in mainland China. As all flights from Hong Kong are ‘international’ (even those to the mainland require immigration clearance), passengers are always advised to arrive at the airport two hours in advance of their flights. You also have the option of checking in ‘remotely’ up to 24 hours before your flight at either of two airport express train stations, Hong Kong Station in Central, and Kowloon Station in west Kowloon. This can be a great way to get rid of your luggage if you are checking out of your hotel in the morning, but won’t fly until the evening. Note that you can only use this service if you have bought a ticket for the Airport Express train. You can also check in the ordinary way at the airport for any flight. In all cases, immigration clearance is usually swift and uneventful.

If you are sending children alone on flights out of Hong Kong, the airport’s ancillary services provider, Worldwide Flight Services (24-hour hotline +852 2261 2727) will escort your child from a ground transport pickup point to the departure hall and check-in, and to the departure gate. You can also arrange this service by asking your airline.

Your airline can also arrange an escorted wheelchair service, taking the passenger from the check-in counter through immigration to the departure gate. If you have elderly parents who are not confident travellers, this will make their journey a lot less stressful.
