Geneva has over 130 hotels, with more popping up all the time. In general even the Geneva hotels that are not members of the Swiss Hotel Association still adhere to the Association’s classifications and standards.

More than two thirds of visitors come to Geneva for business purposes and as a result, many hotels cater to business travellers, concentrating on facilities such as computer and fax connectivity, conference and meeting facilities, and business services. It can be pretty difficult to find an available room during major exhibitions and seminars. Check the list of major events [p.45] so that you can plan your travel time accordingly. Many of the top end hotels are located on the shores of Lac Léman, offering beautiful views. All city centre hotels are within walking distance of the main shopping areas, restaurants and the lakeside. Hotels near the airport have less charm, and it will take you 10 to 15 minutes by taxi to reach the city centre and all its attractions. On the plus side though, these hotels are usually within walking distance of Palexpo (the huge exhibition hall near the airport). Larger hotels often have a regular airport shuttle service, so check when you make your reservation. If you’re looking for reasonably priced hotel accommodation, you could try going just over the border – here you’ll find pleasant rooms at cheaper rates, particularly at hotels such as the Hôtel Formule 1 (www.hotelformule1.com).
