General Information » Getting Around » Train

Switzerland has an extensive railway network that is clean, safe and reliable. From Geneva Cornavin you will find connections to other Swiss cities, such as Bern, Zurich or Lugano, as well as to mountain resorts, such as Zermatt or Champéry (in the vast Portes du Soleil ski area). If you’re looking to head further, you will find connections to all corners of Europe, including Berlin, Brussels, Paris, South of France, Italy or Spain. A travel agency at Cornavin (Railtours) offers a choice of package tours that combine the train journey and hotel stay, while also making all the reservations for you.

If you plan to make a few train journeys it is worthwhile subscribing to a half price concession or discount card (‘abonnement’). In some cases you can also get half price fares on boats and cable cars or other modes of transport. It costs SFr 150 for a year, which may seem a lot, but after a couple of long journeys you’ll find yourself saving quite a bit of money.
