General Information » Getting Around » Taxi

Taxis in Geneva can be ordered by phone, hailed in the street or found at one of the 60 taxi stands in town. There are usually lots of taxis at the railway station (Cornavin) and on the arrivals level at the airport.

A taxi from the airport to the city centre costs anywhere between SFr 28 to SFr 33, depending on the density of traffic, the time and the number of passengers. A supplement may be charged for baggage but service and taxes are included, although it is usual to round up the amount to the nearest franc.

The base charge is SFr 6.30 plus SFr 2.90 per kilometre. The charge per kilometre goes up to SFr 3.50 at night, on Sundays and public holidays, outside the canton or if there are four or more passengers. Waiting time is SFr 55 per hour and each piece of luggage, or animal, will be charged an extra SFr 1.50. These tariffs are approved by the municipal police but are subject to change. In case of any difficulty or dispute, just note the registration number of the taxi and ask for a receipt.
