The main local daily newspapers are Le Courrier, Le Temps, the Tribune de Genève and Le Matin. There are no English dailies, although the Tribune de Genève now offers a regular section in English. Among monthlies, Swiss News is the English language newspaper.

There are several local magazines in English. GEM (Geneva’s English Speaking Magazine) is a monthly aimed at integrating expatriates into the Geneva community. Swiss Style covers a variety of topics related to the whole of Switzerland. A number of clubs and UN organisations publish in-house magazines that are in English.

You can browse a selection of foreign newspapers and magazines, in English (and several other languages), at newsagents, but you’ll find the price to be quite a bit more expensive than back home. It seems that newsagents have a monopoly on newspapers and magazines as you won’t find them anywhere else (with the exception of GHI – a free weekly distributed to all the households). A few local newspapers have self service boxes spread over town. You’re expected to pay the correct amount though, before you can help yourself to a paper.
