General Information » Facts & Figures » Electricity & Water

Electricity and water services in Geneva are excellent. Electricity cuts and water shortages are almost unheard of so when they do occur, they make headline news! The electricity supply is 220 volts and sockets take small, two or three pin, non fused plugs.

Tap water is highly purified and perfectly safe to drink. Many different brands of bottled carbonated or still mineral water are also available. Hotels and restaurants will generally serve bottled water. You can also ask for tap water but somehow waiters tend to ‘forget’ to bring it and you may need to remind them (sometimes more than once)! Some restaurants may add a small surcharge (about SFr 2) if you don’t order other drinks.
