Geneva is considered to be one of the safest cities in Europe but there are still pickpockets and criminals so you should remain vigilant. Keep your valuables and important travel documents locked in your hotel room or in the hotel safe. In crowds, be discreet with your money and wallet and don’t carry large amounts of cash with you. Handbags are one of the most common targets.

Pedestrians have right of way on pedestrian crossings but accidents have happened in the past, so on pedestrian crossings without lights, be certain that a car is actually stopping for you before you step out onto the crossing.

The level of driving in Geneva is quite high, although drivers can be quite aggressive, especially in rush hour traffic. Therefore it is best to drive defensively, especially when changing lanes.

Whether you’re driving or walking, check carefully for oncoming trams, buses and bicycles
