Residents » Work » Working Hours

For most professional jobs, the working week is from Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 17:00 or from 10:00 to 18:00, with an hour for lunch, usually taken between 13:00 and 14:00. If you work in a hospital, the media, retail or manufacturing industry, hospitality or other sectors, your hours may very well differ. Working overtime is not unusual, depending on the sector you work in, but usually your salary will either reflect the long hours you put in or you will be paid overtime. All professional jobs have bank holidays off. While most offices close during weekends, most shops, restaurants, pubs and hotels are open, so those working in these sectors will be required to work weekends. However, under the labour law you will be entitled to overtime pay or time off in lieu.
