General Information » Money » Banks

Most major international banks are represented in Dublin, including a dense network of the prominent Irish names such as the Allied Irish Bank (AIB), Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank. While banking hours can vary, in the city centre they are generally from 10:00 to 16:00 Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 to 17:00 on Thursday. There is no service on Saturday on Sunday. To find your closest branch, check the individual websites or refer to a general directory like Golden Pages (www.goldenpages.ie).

To open a bank account, you are obliged to produce a current, valid form of ID (passport or driving licence) and a recent household bill (phone or electricity bill). Under current Money Laundering legislation, non-residents have to additionally supply a character reference and financial history from your own bank. For more information, please see the Bank Accounts section of the Residents’ chapter on p.71.
