General Information » Essential Info » City Information

There are plenty of tourist information centres scattered all over Ireland, with Dublin itself claiming its fair share of them. Conveniently located at points of entry (the airport, the ferry terminal, the heart of the city), they are easily spotted and usually filled with friendly staff who will go out of their way to help you with anything from accommodation to domestic travel.

The new main inner city tourism office is located in a beautifully restored church, formerly known as St Andrew’s, in Suffolk Street (close to Grafton Street). While you wait for your number to be called (queues can be long during high season), you can stroll over to one of the little cafes or grab a bite to eat in O’Brien’s sandwich bar. Back in the tourist office, services include all Ireland information and reservations, Ticketmaster, a foreign exchange service (Fexco), tours and transport information and car hire.

Although you may get away with showing up on the day in search of a bed in the country, even the best tourism office will struggle to find accommodation for you in Dublin during high season without prior notice (June to August). Plan ahead and use the online resources provided by Fáilte Ireland and Dublin Tourism to get a good deal in a nice location (http://visitdublin.com, www.ireland.ie, www.tourismireland.com, www.discoverireland.com).
