General Information » Places To Stay » Campsites

There are no official campsites in the UAE, but fortunately there are plenty of places to camp informally. Near Dubai, the desert dunes on the way to Hatta are a good option, as is the Jebel Ali beach. Jebel Ali beach is not as peaceful as it ued to be, since it is right near the main route onto the Palm Jebel Ali, and so there is plenty of construction noise and traffic. But it is still a great spot to camp, especially if you manage to bag one of the shelters and showers (you'll have to get there pretty early during the cooler months). Due to litter problems in the past, you are now officially required to get a permit from the municipality (221 5555), free of charge. The police patrol the area at night, and although you could be fined if you are found camping without a licence, they don't seem to check permits as long as you are not making a nuisance of yourself.
