Cash is still the preferred method of payment in the Emirates, although credit cards are now widely accepted. Foreign currencies and travellers’ cheques can be exchanged in licenced exchange offices, banks and hotels – as usual, a passport is required for exchanging travellers’ cheques.

Cheques are a bit more tricky - although strict enforcement of laws regulating the bouncing of cheques has helped restore faith in this method of payment somewhat, many places still won't accept them.
