Currently, there are no trains or trams, but plans for a metro transit system linking major areas of the city are underway, with an expected completion date of 2009. Newspaper reports in 2005 also mentioned the possibility of a tram system operating along the beach road between Dubai Marina and Madinat Jumeirah some time in the future, although this remains to be seen.
