General Information » Facts & Figures » National Flag

In a nation continually striving for world records, when 30 year anniversary celebrations were marked on National Day 2001, one of the world’s tallest flagpoles was erected in Abu Dhabi and the world’s largest UAE flag was raised at the Union House in Jumeira, Dubai. The UAE flag comprises three equal horizontal bands: green at the top, white in the middle and black at the bottom. A thicker, vertical band of red runs down the hoist side. The colours on the flag are common to many of the Arab nations and they symbolise Arab unity and independence. The UAE flag is thought to be based on the Arab Revolt Flag, created in 1916 by Arab nationals during their liberation battle against the then Ottoman (Turkish) rule.
