General Information » Places To Stay » Hostels

Barcelona is a hot-spot among backpackers, student travellers and young people, so there's no shortage of hostels (albergues).

Although they attract the younger crowd, couples, families and older travellers shouldn’t feel out of place, and some hostels have allocated rooms accordingly. Keep in mind, however, that budget hotels or pensions may be better value for more than two people.

While a number of hostels are affiliated with Hostelling International, membership cards are not always required. Call ahead, just in case. Xarxa Nacional d'Albergs Socials de Catalunya (www.xanascat.net) provides descriptions, in Catalan, of regional hostels. The photos should help as well.
