General Information » Money » Banks

You'll find a bank on almost every street in the main tourist areas. There are local, regional, national and international financial institutions, with a heavy concentration of money changing branches centred around Plaça de Catalunya. Some major local and national companies are La Caixa, Caixa Catalunya, BBVA and Santander, and international banks include Barclays, Citibank, Deustche and ING.

Banks are generally open from 08:30 to 14:00 Monday to Friday. Some have Saturday and evening hours, and many change schedules during the summer. A currency change sign, posted in several languages in the doorway, indicates which branches provide this service. Also, the degree of English proficiency varies, so be patient and remember, there's always smiling and pointing. For more information, see the Bank Accounts section in the Residents Chapter p..
