General Information » Getting Around » Walking

Barcelona is a walking town, and while the public transport is very good, sometimes your own two feet will get you where you're going faster. Besides, how else would you see that fancy façade in Eixample if you didn't walk right by it?

Pavements on even the narrowest streets are adequate. Even better, many of the main boulevards are designed with leisurely strolls in mind and ample, tree-lined pedestrian paths have been added adjacent to car lanes. Much of the city is flat, but if you want the extra challenge of hills, you'll get a dose around parks Güell, Montjuïc and Tibidabo. Most places are safe to walk in, although at night you may want to take extra care. The local tourist offices can provide suggestions for walking routes and maps.
