Renfe (www.renfe.es / 90 224 02 02) runs several types of regional and national trains. There are also sleeper trains to France and the far away reaches of Spain. You can check schedules online or at the Sants, Plaça de Catalunya, or França train stations. Standards of reliability, comfort and speed are generally lower than in the rest of western Europe.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, or FGC (www.fgc.es; 93 205 15 15), operates trains for the metropolitan area, linking Barcelona with its surrounding suburbs. Timetables and other information are available at the Plaça de Catalunya, Plaça d'Espanya and Provença stations.
