General Information » Getting Around » Taxi

Black and yellow taxis, independently operated but regulated by local authorities, are reasonably affordable alternatives, particularly after midnight when public transport is limited. Drivers are usually friendly and honest, but as English proficiency varies, you may want to write down the address of your destination or point to a map.

Taxis with a green light and a lliure or libre sign will stop if waved down on the street, unless they're within 50 metres of a taxi stand. In crowded areas or after Fira or Forum conferences, you'll have to queue at taxi stands. You can also phone to order one (see table).

Fares are set, and not negotiable. During work days from 07:00 to 21:00, meters start at €1.75 and run 78 cents per kilometre thereafter. Night fares, weekends and holidays have a €1.85 flag drop and go to €1 per kilometre. For airport rides, expect to pay between €20 and €25. There are supplements for airport and port drop-offs and suitcases. For lost items, call 902 101 564 or e-mail objper-taxi<\@>amb.cat.
