General Information » Getting Around » Bus

A complex but reliable bus network covers the city, connecting to all the main sites and other transport modes. Buses run frequently during the day and are widely used by locals. There is a weekend and night service, albeit with less regularity. If you're not sure where to get off, ask the driver. They'll let you know when your stop is approaching.

Bus lines, maps and schedules are posted at nearly all bus stops. Since many buses use the same stop, it's best to flag down the one you want. Depending on the day and time, drivers may slow down but not always stop.

Entitat Metropolitana del Transport, or EMT, (www.emt-amb.com / 93 223 51 51) has schedules for buses serving Barcelona and surrounding cities. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (www.tmb.net) also has trip-planning tools and a service called TMB iBus that tells you when the next bus will arrive. You can access the info from the web or have it sent to your mobile phone.

For paper timetables, go to the TMB booths at the Universitat, Diagonal, Sagrada Famiília and Sants Estació metro stops.

Single-trip tickets are €1.25, but if you'll be riding buses and the metro frequently, the T-10 is better value at€6.90. Tickets need to be validated when you get on board and can be used for transfers for same-zone trains, metros and trams. Although signs do state that the exact change is required, most drivers will be able to make change for small euro denominations. For general information about Barcelona public transportation dial the toll number 010.
