General Information » Facts & Figures » Public Holidays

Sometimes it can seem like you’ve only just finished one public holiday before the next one begins. Occasionally they’re extended over the weekend if they fall on a Thursday or Friday. Some of the holidays, have spawned lavish celebrations, such as the Fiesta de La Mercé, an explosion of tradition and popular culture in the name of The Merciful Virgin. The city’s Gothic Quarter sees most of the action, hosting carnivals, dancing and live music. Particularly worth catching is the correfoc midnight procession featuring fire-breathing dragons, devils and wild mythological creatures.
