Try not to walk alone late at night in the back streets of Ciutat Vella, where handbag theft is very common. Getting public transport alone is not a cause for concern, although be more vigilant when taking thenitbus (nightbus). Ignore those who try to force conversation, there are some notoriously relentless sweet talkers out there. When mildly irritated, try not to get angry, and mention a (real or imaginary) boyfriend (novio). When unduly harassed, don’t hesitate to attract the attention of other people. In terms of what you wear, Barcelona is a very liberal city. Short of wandering around completely naked there are no real restrictions. It is entirely down to what you find comfortable, but bear in mind that less clothes usually equals more attention, and in Barcelona there’s no shortage of potential courtiers.
