There are few rules when it comes to dress code. Barcelona’s sense of the avant garde lets many outrageous dressers off the fashion hook. People walking down the road in pyjamas or fancy dress suffer nothing more than a raised eyebrow in places like Ciutat Vella or Gracia. Things are a little more conservative in Eixample and the suburbs. During winter at night you will probably find yourself colder than expected, so a warm coat, a jumper and a scarf are a good idea. In summer, temperatures get very high, so light, airy materials are advisable. In cinemas, banks, shopping malls and restaurants the air conditioning can be surprisingly cool compared with outside in the street, so it’s a good idea to have something warm to wrap yourself in.
